Riichi Weizhong Zhang

Riichi Weizhong Zhang (Zhang, Weizhong / Chang, Weichung ), an contemporary Taiwanese novelist and essay writer, was born in Taipei on Sep 25, 1976. He resides in Tokyo Japan now.


Zhang graduated from Soochow University, majoring in English Literature. And later, he received the Master of Arts in Graduate Institute of English Language and Literature, Chinese Culture University.  The title of his studied thesis is "The Storytelling and Private Talk in Amy Tan's Novels".


Zhang has gone to Japan since 2008. After studying in Waseda University for one year,

he studied in book and magazine design in a design school. In 2009, he cooperated with Mediaporta, a guidebook publisher in Tokyo, and began to write the series of traveling journals in Japan.


Zhang won a lot of literature prizes for essays and novels in Taiwan. In 1997, when he was studying in university, 20 years old, he published his first novel in Taiwan and Hong Kong. The genre of his published works includes novels, essay, traveling journal, and children’s book. Over 20 works were already published in Taiwan, and sold in Hong Kong, Malaysia, and China in Traditional Chinese version or Simplified Chinese version.


He taught creative writing lesson (fiction and essay) and comparative literature studies for one year in Soochow University. At the same time, he did not only write books but also be an editor for publishers.


The theme of Zhang’s novels explores the definition of family, the construction of human relationship,  and the issue of gender. About essay, he keeps on writing his life in Tokyo for several columns for newspaper, magazines, and websites in  Taiwan.
